Real Talk Suicide Prevention

We want to help people who care for children and young people to understand the particular barriers facing young people in talking about suicide and accessing help. In turn, inspiring young people with the confidence and knowledge to support their peers.

A partnership between Therapy Partners and Grassroots Suicide Prevention, the objective of which is the evolution and extension of Grassroots existing Real Talk workshop, with the aim of better engaging children and young people in the community. The project will use a co-production model, working collaboratively with young people and teaching staff to identify and develop the most effective means of communicating suicide prevention messages to this age group.

Quick Facts

  • The number of teenage suicides in England and Wales increased by 67 per cent between 2010 and 2017.
  • Office of National Statistics (ONS) figures show that in the last year alone 187 under 19s took their own lives, compared with 162 the year before - a rise of 15 per cent.
  • Research shows that 72% of people who die by suicide do not engage with traditional support services such as their GP or mental health services

RealTalk is going to change all this!

ImageSince 2006 Grassroots has trained over 10,000 people in suicide prevention and mental health awareness and we are not stopping there!

We believe that suicide can be prevented through open and direct conversations. The project, beginning in early 2019, will roll out a workshop, reaching out to young people and professionals, so we can help to create a cultural shift in the way we talk about suicide.
